Recently at a car boot sale I found a little reproduction bronze of Rodin’s sculpture, ‘The Kiss’.
It led me to write this poem which came first in Writing Magazine’s Talk back one word challenge where the theme was quarry.

The Kiss

We were like that once:
supple, unlined,
revelling in our nakedness,
entwined.
If only marble had given us
an eternal embrace,
the almost kiss.
We are weathered rocks,
perched either side
of a quarried abyss.
