I love browsing car boots and charity shops, I never know what I might find. Yesterday I came across this picture and I just had to buy it as I felt drawn to the woman in the painting. It was only a few pounds. Since then I have been trying to find out who the woman in the picture is.
So far it looks to be the mother of Queen Victoria. Her name was Princess Mary Louise Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld and she was born in Germany in 1786.
William Beechey painted a picture of Mary Louise with her daughter Victoria and in it she looks very much like the lady in my picture. But I’m not sure. If anyone can help identify her I’d be grateful. The picture ( print?) is now hanging on my wall.
